An essay I wrote about David Foster Wallace was published on Astral Codex
A little late on the uptake here, but I’m happy to share that I was a finalist in the Astral Codex book review contest (a yearly contest on one of Substack’s largest blogs). I reviewed The Pale King by David Foster Wallace, a novel about tax returns, sincerity, and the redemptive power of boredom. The novel remains unfinished as Wallace killed himself while writing it.
David Foster Wallace is one of my favorite writers. He’s impacted my thoughts on postmodernism (thumbs down), psychiatric drugs (thumb sideways), and maximalism (thumbs up). You can read the piece here:
There’s a new contest going on if anyone wants to give it a try - this year it’s “review anything except a book”:
That’s about it! To give a more general update, I’m working on my books at the moment, but I plan to get back to a more regular publishing schedule sometime in the summer. Enjoy the nice weather and the chaotic global politics!
