Interesting article :) I hadn't heard of the Stag Hunt Dilemma before. I would be curious to hear more about those real world versions of it.

Thanks Pilar :) War could be an example of a stag hunt dilemma - it consumes massive amounts of money, destroys infrastructure and kills lots of talented young people (though it does spur innovation). Even the winners often end up worse off than if there hadn't been no war, but not always (when the winners end up better off it's more of a prisoner's dilemma).

Thought provoking as always Arielle. Sounds like sticking to the stag hunt requires some form of coercion (or consensus) which would be an interesting to juxtapose against a libertarian perspective. Keep up the creative work. I am looking forward to the next article :-)

Thanks Peter! It's a tough problem cuz in theory, sticking to the stag hunt is in everyone's interests, but in practice conflict tends to break out, even when it's to everyone's detriment. War is a great example - it's costly to everyone, but we do it anyway.

Human irrationality remains the best argument for coercion, and our better natures for freedom. It's an old-fashioned dichotomy but it seems to remain true.
